This glossary defines terms used throughout Hydrogene Pro and this documentation. Terms are grouped by category.


Platform Terms

Blend A custom nutrient solution created by combining one or more fertilizers or raw salts. Blends are stored in the Blends Library and can be used as parts in Feed Charts.

Built-in Refers to content that comes pre-loaded in Hydrogene Pro, such as the default Fertilizer Library entries or commercial Feed Charts. Built-in items cannot be deleted.

Concentration / Dilution Ratio The amount of solid fertilizer (in grams) required to prepare 1 liter of concentrated stock solution.

Cultivation Cycle An active grow tracked in Hydrogene Pro. A cycle is linked to a feed chart and records measurements, events, health issues, and plant data from start to harvest.

Cultivation Day The number of days elapsed since the cycle was started. Day 1 is the day the cycle is activated.

Custom Refers to content added by the user, such as custom fertilizers or custom feed charts. Custom items are editable and deletable.

Event A scheduled or recorded cultivation activity within a cycle, such as irrigation, transplanting, or a foliar spray application.

Feed Chart A structured, week-by-week feeding schedule that defines fertilizer dosages, EC targets, and pH targets for each growth stage of a cultivation cycle.

Fine Tuning A step in Automatic Blend Creation that allows the user to adjust calculated gram amounts to improve practical measurability.

Health Issue A recorded plant problem within a cultivation cycle. Issues are tagged, tracked by cultivation day, and can be concluded with an outcome when resolved.

Measurement A logged data point within a cultivation cycle, such as EC, pH, temperature, humidity, or nutrient ppm.

Mode (Feed Chart) The delivery method for nutrients in a feed chart. Options are Concentrate Solution (pre-dissolved stock solution) or Direct Mixing (salts added directly to the reservoir).

Part A fertilizer or blend assigned a label (Part A, Part B, etc.) within a feed chart. Parts define which products are used in the feeding schedule and at what dose.

Physical State Whether a fertilizer is Solid (powder or granule) or Liquid (solution or emulsion).

Plan Event An event scheduled for a future cultivation date. Can be concluded or cancelled after the date passes.

Record Event / Record Measurement Logging an event or measurement that has already taken place, retroactively entering it into the cycle record.


Nutrient Terms

Boron (B) A micronutrient essential for cell wall formation, pollination, and sugar transport.

Calcium (Ca) A macronutrient critical for cell wall integrity, root development, and enzyme activation.

Copper (Cu) A micronutrient involved in photosynthesis, enzyme function, and nitrogen metabolism.

Iron (Fe) A micronutrient essential for chlorophyll synthesis and electron transport. Iron deficiency causes interveinal chlorosis.

Macronutrients Nutrients required in relatively large amounts: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), and Sulfur (S).

Magnesium (Mg) A macronutrient and the central atom in chlorophyll. Deficiency causes yellowing between leaf veins (interveinal chlorosis).

Manganese (Mn) A micronutrient involved in photosynthesis and enzyme activation.

Micronutrients Nutrients required in small amounts: Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Zinc (Zn), Boron (B), Copper (Cu), Molybdenum (Mo), and Cobalt (Co).

Molybdenum (Mo) A micronutrient required for nitrogen fixation and nitrate reduction.

Nitrogen (N) A primary macronutrient essential for leaf growth, protein synthesis, and chlorophyll production. Plants require more N during vegetative growth.

NPK Abbreviation for the three primary macronutrients: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K). Often displayed as a ratio (e.g., 3-13-26).

Oxide Form The way some nutrients are listed on fertilizer labels (e.g., P₂O₅ for phosphorus, K₂O for potassium, MgO for magnesium). Hydrogene Pro converts oxide values to elemental equivalents for accurate calculations.

Phosphorus (P) A primary macronutrient essential for root development, energy transfer, and flower/fruit production. Plants require more P during flowering.

Potassium (K) A primary macronutrient involved in water regulation, enzyme activation, and carbohydrate metabolism. Critical during flowering and fruiting.

Sulfur (S) A secondary macronutrient involved in amino acid and protein synthesis.

Zinc (Zn) A micronutrient essential for enzyme function, hormone production, and internode elongation.


Measurement Terms

EC (Electrical Conductivity) A measure of the total dissolved solids in a nutrient solution, used as a proxy for overall nutrient concentration. Measured in millisiemens per centimeter (mS/cm). Higher EC indicates a more concentrated solution.

pH A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, on a scale of 0–14. A pH of 7 is neutral. Most crops perform best in a pH range of 5.5–6.5 (hydroponics) or 6.0–7.0 (soil).

ppm (Parts Per Million) A unit of measurement for the concentration of a specific nutrient in a solution. 1 ppm = 1 mg/L.

Runoff EC The EC measured in the drainage water coming out of the substrate. Used to assess salt buildup in the root zone.

Target Range The acceptable upper and lower bounds for a measurement (EC, pH, temperature) within a given cultivation week, as defined in the feed chart.


Agronomy Terms

Deficiency A condition in which a plant is not receiving enough of a specific nutrient, resulting in visual symptoms such as yellowing, necrosis, or stunted growth.

Flush A period at the end of a cultivation cycle in which plain water (or a very low-dose solution) is applied to remove accumulated salts from the substrate and root zone before harvest.

Growing Medium The material in which plant roots grow. Common types include soil, coco coir, rockwool, perlite, and expanded clay aggregate.

Interveinal Chlorosis Yellowing of leaf tissue between the veins, while the veins remain green. A common symptom of iron, magnesium, or manganese deficiency.

Necrosis Death of plant tissue, typically appearing as brown or black spots or tips on leaves. Often caused by nutrient toxicity, salt burn, or severe deficiency.

Root Zone The area of the growing medium where plant roots are active. Maintaining appropriate EC, pH, and moisture levels in the root zone is critical for plant health.

Stock Solution A highly concentrated nutrient solution (concentrate) that is diluted before application to plants. Used in Concentrate Solution mode feed charts.

Substrate Volume The volume of growing medium per plant, measured in liters. Affects how quickly the root zone dries out and how often irrigation is required.

Tank Volume The total volume of the nutrient reservoir in a hydroponic system, measured in liters.

Toxicity A condition in which a plant receives too much of a specific nutrient, resulting in symptoms such as leaf tip burn, dark coloration, or growth suppression.

Vegetative Stage The growth phase in which a plant focuses on producing leaves, stems, and roots rather than flowers or fruit. Typically requires higher nitrogen levels.
