Step-by-step workflow for replicating a commercial fertilizer using available raw salts with the Blends Automatic Creation feature.
Recreate a Commercial Fertilizer
Goal
Produce a custom blend of raw salts that closely matches the nutrient profile of a target commercial fertilizer. This lets you replace expensive commercial products with cost-effective raw salts while maintaining the same nutritional results.
Requirements
Before starting, make sure you have:
- The target commercial fertilizer saved in the Fertilizer Library (it must be in the Built-in list or added as a custom entry).
- The raw salts you want to use saved in the Fertilizer Library as custom entries.
- A clear idea of which nutrients matter most for your crop and growth stage.
Steps
1. Open Blends
Navigate to the Blends section from the left sidebar.
2. Start Automatic Creation
- Click Create.
- Select Automatic Creation.
3. Select the Reference Fertilizer
In step 1 (Choose Reference), find and select the commercial fertilizer you want to replicate in the Reference Fertilizer table.
If the mass should be calculated for 1 liter of concentrated solution, check the box below the table.
4. Set Calculation Parameters
Scroll down to the Calculation Parameters box. Check only the nutrients you want the algorithm to optimize for your crop.
Less is more here. Focus on the nutrients that are critical for your growth stage — adding too many parameters can reduce the optimization quality.
Click Next.
5. Select Available Salts
In step 2 (Choose Available):
- Select the raw salts you have on hand from the Available Solid Fertilizers list.
- Check the nutrient coverage summary at the bottom of the page to confirm all required nutrients are represented.
- Click Run.
6. Review and Iterate
In step 3 (Results), review the calculated salt quantities and nutrient comparison.
If the result is not satisfactory:
- Click Retry to recalculate with the same salts.
- Go back and add or swap salts to improve coverage.
Repeat until you have a result that meets your nutritional targets.
7. Fine Tune
In the Fine Tuning tab, adjust gram values to make field weighing practical. Small rounding adjustments will not significantly affect plant performance.
8. Save the Blend
- Click Save.
- Enter a descriptive name (e.g., “Bloom Replication — DAP + DKP + K-Carb”).
- Add notes documenting the reference product, the salts used, and the optimization goals.
Expected Result
A saved blend appears in your Blends Library, ready to be added as a part in any Feed Chart. The blend’s nutrient profile will closely match the reference fertilizer, within the constraints of the salts you selected.
